(Both sections of the course will take the midterms at the same time.) Grading: I will be using clicker in this course, and your “clicker grade” will count for 5% of your course grade. Course grade =.25(midterm 1)+.25(midterm 2)+.45(final) + .05(clicker grade)

clicker grade Calculation of your clicker grade is explained in a document on TED. In a given lecture, I will pose probably 3 or 4 clicker questions: For example, suppose in lecture 3, I ask 4 clicker questions. Each question will have two “click opportunities”, the preliminary poll and the final poll. Points for participation: 5 points if you participate in 75% of the “click opportunities” for a given lecture Points for correct answer: 1 additional point for each correct final answer. Therefore: 4 questions: max possible points = 9 3 questions: max possible points = 8

For each lecture, I then compute a percentage score : percentage score for lecture 3

= actual points/max possible points

If I ask 4 questions, you get 3 out of 4 correct, then percentage score = (5 + 3)/9 = 8/9 = 89% for lecture 3

I will not be using clickers in week 1, or for the midterms. This leaves 16 lectures in weeks 2 – 10. If you don’t attend a lecture, your clicker percentage score for the lecture is zero. You have 5 “get out of lecture free” passes. That means that of the 16 lectures, I will take your 11 highest clicker percentage scores and average them. That is, the 5 lowest of your clicker percentage scores are dropped. Of the 11 highest, I take the average, which is your “clicker grade” for the course and counts for 5% of the course grade. Power point slides: I will post the power point slides prior to each class. However, the power point slides posted prior to the class will not contain the clicker questions. After the class, I will then repost the slides with the clicker questions and answers.
