Sibulan National High School was established on May 1970 through a Municipal Resolution by the Sangguniang Bayan. The Sangguniang Bayan then was headed by the late Honorable Atty. Ricardo D. Abiera who at the time was the Municipal Mayor of Sibulan.
With only about 120 students for the first and second year and with only 5 teachers, it started its first year of operation during the school year 1970-1971. Classes then were housed in Magsaysay Memorial School under the supervision of the elementary principal. Then it was transferred within the Municipal Hall grounds under the supervision of a full time School Head, Mrs. Carmelina D. Renacia. Enrolment continued to increase so do with the number of teachers. School buildings were constructed at the back of the public market to house the first and second year students.
The continued increase in enrolment urged then the school head together with the PTCA officials to request from the Diocese of Dumaguete for a donation of an area located at the back of the Roman Catholic Church. Because of this donated lot the school became the first recipient of the SEDP package which comprises buildings, furniture and laboratory equipments for Mathematics, Science and Practical Arts classes. Later, the school also received 20 units of Computer from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in collaboration with the Department of Education. Installation expenses and air conditioning system were provided by the PTCA and the LGU. The Ayala Foundation together with internet service provider, Globe now involve through their Youth Tech connection with one year free subscription fee of the internet.
Knowledge Channel Incorporated also gave the school one unit of 30” Akira TV set with free monthly cable subscription. This is installed in the library so that students as well as teachers can see some demonstration lessons in different subject areas most especially in Science, Mathematics and English.
